Randonnée (Walking)

The best way to see the Alps – 450km of walks, there is something for everyone – serious walkers to Sunday afternoon strollers!

There are 4 lifts open from beginning of July to the end of August: Les Vagnys at Sixt; Morillon 1100; les Carroz; and Flaine.

You can take any of these lifts to experience fabulous views and simply walk down or, for the more adventurous, follow trails and stay in remote refuges. We took in 2 refuges this year, they are all in remote places and offer very basic accommodation but all have a good standard of food and more importantly serve plenty of wine. They offer unrivalled views and the chance to see wildlife you wouldn’t get to see on the beaten track.

There are plenty of restaurants open in the mountains, a particular favourite is the Igloo at the top of Morillon - it is very popular so do book in advance.

Be warned the lifts close in stormy weather.

They also close for lunch between 12 and 1!
