For Beginners

The ski schools at nearby Samoens and Morillon are both excellent.

The largest beginner ski area in the Haute Savoie. There are plenty of gentle green and blue runs where beginners can perfect their skills and gain confidence. Both areas have sledging areas and lots of bars and restaurants. The 9km Green Marvel run at Morillon is fantastic for beginners and intermediate skiers.

For Intermediate Skiers
Skiers are spoilt for choice with many red runs dropping some 1000m in height. Intermediate skiers can cross the five resorts of the Grand Massif easily spending a day without the need to do the same run twice. A must do is the 14km Cascade Run for a taste of back country skiing, it begins at 2500m and descends to the village of Sixt (600m).
For Expert Skiers
Advanced skiers will want to try the network of black runs around the top of Samoens and over into Flaine where there are several un-pisted slopes with hairy descents. But best of all is the Lac Gers bowl, a play-ground of off piste terrain where all routes eventually lead to the same lift and is still covered by safety personnel.

Ski Schools

All ski and snowboarding schools are located in Samoens 1600 or Morillon 1100. Chalet Setanta guests will be driven to the lift for the short gondola ride up in plenty of time for the start of the lesson.

Choose to learn in a group environment with a ski school or book private lessons with your own personal instructor. All ski schools have fluent English speaking instructors.

Zig-Zag Ski School
This is the most popular ski school with our guests. They recruit only fluent English speaking instructors and although more expensive than other schools they guarantee a maximum class size of only 8.

ESF Samoens/Morillon
The ESF offer fantastic crèche and baby minding services. The group lessons tend to be rather big but the private lesson are excellent value for money.

The Grand Massif ski area offers 3 levels of lift pass: from Debutant for beginners; Massif Pass covering all the slopes of Morillon, Samoens and Les Carroz and even the long blue across to Flaine; up to the full Grand Massif Pass allows you to ski every bit of the 265km of pistes available in the area.
