Planning The Perfect Group Ski Holiday

Published 8th August 2015

Sitting here in August enjoying blue skies and 24°C it seems a little strange to be writing about winter but the start of the season is less than 4 months away and its time to start planning. Organising a joint holiday with family or with friends can seem like a bit of a challenge so I thought I’d share some of my top tips.

1. The first is probably the hardest – getting everyone to agree what you’re looking for. Catered or self-catered? Flying, driving or taking the train? Budget? Dates?

2. Book as far in advance as possible to get the best Early Bird deals – and your preferred dates.

3. Instead of hundreds of group emails and no decision, offer your friends the holiday as one perfect choice. Take everyone’s ideas into consideration and find the best fit but by offering one holiday you avoid factions and will achieve consensus far more quickly.

A complete package like ours which includes airport transfers, accommodation, daily breakfast & afternoon tea and dinner 6 nights makes it simpler for you – just add flights!

4. Get people to commit. Make sure there is a sense of urgency/FOMO. We’re happy to hold your dates while you rally the troops but give them deadlines and let them know this will ensure you don’t lose the booking to another group.

5. Book lift passes and ski hire in advance to spend your first morning skiing instead of queueing. We can arrange in-chalet ski fitting for when you arrive and have your lift passes waiting for you.

6. Discuss ski school. If you’re all similar levels a shared private instructor can be more effective and similar price.

7. Agree bedroom arrangements in advance. It’s useful to have floor plans so you can allocate rooms according to who wants to be next to who. Floor plans of Chalet Setanta are available here and all our rooms can be made as either twin beds or king-size bed. The person who booked gets first choice.

8. If you’re travelling with children its worth setting some ground rules. If they’re similar ages it’s easier if they share the same technology time and bed times etc.

9. With a big group doing everything together will be hard. If people ski at different speeds and abilities split into groups for skiing and all meet for lunch or apres ski drinks. We can recommend some great restaurants and drinks stops.

Good luck organising things. If you need any help or advice on organising your ski holiday at Setanta Chalet please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
